I thought they were a joke band, in fact they are sublime. Merry Christmas.

...and greatest? You be the judge.

I think I've got myself into a bit of a Dilla rut after working on Hoodlum, need to keep working towards something original. I was gonna record some extra guitar but it seemed unnecessary.

New Track - Hoodlum

Hoodlum by dr rasclut

I fancied making some Dilla beats, and this is the result. I spent ages sampling around, that's the hard part. You've gotta have a really good ear, and not just for rhythm and beats. Finding snippets of melody can really bring it together too. I think you have to have a go at it yourself to realise how genius people like Dilla really were. I do enjoy it though, it's just a completely different practice to writing guitar based pop tunes.

I sequenced all of this using Cubase, but I'm hoping to dump all the samples on to my sp-303 for any live situations that may happen to arise in the future...

More 1st year animation

'My second and final 1st year animation. It is a short exploration of the theme 'people' based on observation/imagination, and the city/urban environment. The final product is basically a compilation of a few experiments.'

People from Dan Jacobs on Vimeo.

It was in the last few days of the project when I chucked everything into After Effects that I realised how important the editing process is, and how much I enjoy it. I'm a computer nerd at heart...

It includes a condensed version of me very own 'Shaken Fizzy' for the soundtrack, which seems to fit nicely with the looped drawings and represents a cyclical urban culture.

RCA?

Here's a really fucking nice animation by Kristian Andrews. Like many of the best out there, he did an MA at the Royal Academy.

Check it his website http://www.kristian-andrews.com/index.php?pg=2&l2=83 interestingly designed by Manchester Met's very own Tom Judd. Maybe they were in the same year at RCA?

As I'm doing an Illustration degree I should probably stop farting around and upload some of my rudimentary mark making that will one day get me a job. Hope you like the new banner too.

These are actually from before Christmas, I'll try and upload some more recent ones soon.

May The Sixth

Right, right so.

This is a bit of an important day for me, it's election day.

I've got a lot of hopes riding on today in terms of parliamentary change, and I've also got a lot of angst regarding the possible outcomes.

I'll be writing tomorrow, until then,

Post 101 - Soundtrack?

I didn't realise that last post was no.100, so here's another track to celebrate. It started a while ago when I was quite into ambient sound-scape type stuff and also the on going appeal of glitch, so enjoy the long introduction.

Music for animation? Perhap.

New Track

Hey yo, here's another tune i've been working on for a while. It's not quite perfect yet but it's got potential; the combination of guitars and beatz worked quite well in this instance. I managed to get a surprisingly beefy sound for a DI'd electric using software amp simulators.

Buffalo Buffalo by dr rasclut

I've got plenty more unfinished tracks in the pipeline, including some tasty samba beats, so stay tuned.
Tell me what you think about me.

I Written These Lines

There's a pupil size part of the mind
Where you strike a deal only to hide
Exponential currents, strong and flamboyant,
In mind's eye so willingly blind.

'Easier than you think', I thought, I think,
To succinctly remove my sweat and the stink,
Months now until I see her and yet
Within hours I find her only in ink.

Totally Crunk Up Casio SA-5

This is the same keyboard I got when i was a kid, and I've still got it. There's a way you can bend the circuits inside to create loads of cool noises, you can do it with old drum machines e.t.c.

You can see how they did it here: http://www.casperelectronics.com/finished-pieces/casio-sa-keyboards/

I'm tempted to give it a go...

Here's some more cool ones with different keyboards n shit

I'm currently restringing my 12 string guitar in preparation for trying to find some gigs. Tonight I'm sound engineering for some acoustic cats. Ha! Professional, me.
And I'm having a wee listen to this, I really like it.
Great harmonic work, I reckon.
